My Rockwood has the Carrier V air conditioner. Trying to figure out the minimum power necessary to run it off a generator. Unfortunately the owners guide only refers to 115v power source

Anyone know the amount of power I should be looking for on a generator?

Thanks!

While I don't have your info for you unit, There are many threads on this subject here. Try a search to find them.

In general some people have sucsess with a 2000w other don't. I'd go alittle bigger if you budget will allow. Also go with a honda or similar inverter type because of the noise factors.

The smallest one that will run it is commonly agreed by most will be the Yamaha 2400.  If I understand it right, the Yamaha 2400 was made specificlly to run rooftop AC (although I might be wrong).

I have read on some other forums that some people have had good luck with the Hyundai 2200 and the Honda 2000.  With a hard start kit installed, you might have some luck with those.  For the price of those, you could get 2 Champion CPE 2000's and pair them.  There is a guy selling reconditioned CPE2000 on ebay now for $400.  You would then need to buy a $80 pairing kit.  So for under $1000 you could without a doubt run your AC.  The Yamaha 2400 is about $1200+ new.

Other than that, you'd have to go with a bigger contractors generator.

My Rockwood has the Carrier V air conditioner.

A 13,500 BTU Carrier AirV will pull ~ 14.5 amps with the compressor on and the fan speed set to high, a bit less with the fan speed set to low.  Running it with a genset isn't the issue, starting it is, and although I can manage to start & run my own 13,500 BTU Coleman Mach 3 Plus A/C with my Honda EU2000i I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who doesn't understand the potential consequences of doing so.  You might want to read through this discussion on the subject OR just cut to the chase and invest in a Yamaha EF2400iSHC or better still a Honda EU3000iS, either of which offer the best chance of reliably starting & running your A/C under most circumstances.

I can't, for the life of me, understand why anyone would buy a Honda 30000. One can buy 2, Honda 2000s (hooked together) for about the same price and it is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much easier to contend with is every way. For most people only 1 of the gen-sets would be needed in at least 75% of camp-outs, greatly cutting down on weight, storage and fuel consumption... One 2000 is less than half the weight of a 3000 and 2 of them put out more power than the 3000..... I just don't see the upside. Undecided

You're right, a 30,000 watt genset would be pretty big for camping. Clown Wink

LOL.  You're going to have to cut Wavery some slack.  With his reading comprehension gone and now his verbal communication obviously on the blink...   Wink
