Does anyone have a portable ice maker? We saw a great sale on one this week and are seriously thinking about getting it after coming home today from a long HOT weekend -- we could have used alot more ice to keep our drinks cold!

We currently use ice blocks and have a plug in cooler (awesome as well I may add) -- but ice for drinks is severely lacking and bag ice melts fast and gets costly every day!!

Any recommendations or reviews from those who use a portable ice machine.....?

We bought one from Target last year when they were on clearance ($150ish). It is an Emerson, has 3 settings for cube size.  We took it with us this past weekend and it was nice to have ice for our drinks.  It weighs around 25 pounds and exhausts hot air on the left side so those are some things to take into consideration.  We keep it outside under the awning and it was really handy.  Once it gets going, it will hold the ice for a while even though it doesn't claim to.  It will be making the trip with us from now on.  It definitely doesn't replace ice for the cooler but for drinks, it's great.

I purchased this one on amazon just before Memorial Day http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004CJCXAU/ref=oh_details_o05_s00_i00  and it works great.  Helps me top off the cooler each day and have cubes for drinks if needed.  I use it on the counter inside the pup and it travels in the TV to and from the campsite.

We have 2 - one for the house and one for the PUP. I have posted previously on this forum about my experiences, so won't repeat. Besides those you can get at the various stores (Target, Sears, Wally-world, etc.) you can get better deals, IMO, online. I have purchased from Compact Appliance (be sure to check out their "open Box" section), and Air-n-Ice websites. These icemakers are all made the same, and in the same country (China), so I strongly urge that if you buy one, regardless of where, you spend the few extra bucks for the extended warranty. It will likely be money well spent.
All that being said, we are very happy with our icemakers. BTW - for the DW and myself, it keeps up nicely with the ice chest needs we have.
I hope that helps.

I am also looking to invest in an ice maker. My 5-day cooler works great, but even in the heat it is not infallible. Up to now, I've been using ice trays in my freezer to provide additional ice but having an actual ice machine would free up space for any frozen foods we may wish to bring along.
