I have a 12" black & white tv with rabbit ears in my camper.  It only gets used in inclement weather, and when I'm ready for bed.

I'm guessing you haven't used it for a couple of years.  I don't they've made a black & white TV since the switch to digital.

We had a little 5 inch B&W TV for the camper, and I made sure that one of our digital converters would work on 12 volts.  We used it a couple of times that way, but it was too much clutter.

Someone mentioned the 13 inch TV that CVS has on sale.  I have one of those that I haul around for video presentations.  The box that it comes with is very good for hauling it around.  I haven't taken advantage of this, but it does run directly off 12 volts.  (The wall wart that comes with it has a 12 volt output.)  So it would be an easy matter to get a cable to run it even when we don't have power.

I haven't taken it camping, but if we were going somewhere with TV and wanted to keep tabs on the weather, I'd probably bring that one.

I use it all the time.  I have one of those digital to analog converter boxes that I keep with it, and it works great..... when I can find a decent signal.

We use a 17" LCD that we hook up to our portable DVD player.  It keeps the grandson happy in rainy weather and for 30 minutes at bedtime.  If we camp with no power the portable DVD player still gets used for bedtime.

Other than that no TV use we are camping

OK, that's what we did for a while, too.  But since the converter and assorted cables took up more space than the TV itself, I finally decided it wasn't worth it.

feel the tv is a must, dont have kids, usually just 2 of us and 1 (me) is a sports nut. we do a 19" flatscreen that i have kept in the original box which doubles as a great carry case because it is padded inside. I think we bought the tv for about $150.

If you have direct tv you can rent a non-hd box for $6 a month and coupled with a direct dish i have only been to 1 campsite that i was not able to get a signal. It takes a few times to get comfortable with set up but once youve done it a time or two its pretty easy from there

Agreed.  Everything you said here is exactly why I have a T.V. as well.  Except for the sports nut part.

I would not get one.  We had a TT with an ATT never brought a tv on vaction, had one in the van.  The way we thought about it was, we wanted quality family time, did want the kids playing games or watching tv.  We figured If we did it once we coud never put the genie back in the bottel.

I did take a TV when I used it for 2 months temporary living during a move.  I was about 25 miles from the broad cast att my reception sucked.  Now if I had cable at the CG or a dish that might work.

But for camping with the family, don't bring it.

I use the attenna in our TT sometimes with my laptop and a converter for tv.  Mostly get PBS stations out in campgrounds and local stations here where we store our TT.  Some of the local channels are HD over the air and look great but not many channels.
Have not been able to get it to work on cable at campgrounds yet but have not stayed where cable is reliable either.
Have decided that it just not worth trying to watch tv but bring laptop to watch movies if we feel like it during bad weather.

When my boys grow up and its just the wife and I, we might consider a TV, but for now....no TV, video games, laptops.  The iPhone stays in the car and I try to just use it for basic calls and weather radar.  The best family time comes after a day or 2 of being unplugged. Its so nice not to hear the boys (7 and 5) arguing over video games, or who's turn it is to play or who gets the remote.....

A few years ago when we went to Yellowstone, we took a 5" B&W TV with digital converter box.  We had cable at the Wisconsin Dells and Graybull (WY) KOAs.  It was hard to dial in the stations on the TV because they were so close to each other.  Where we picked up over-the-air stations, we were lucky to get one.  That camper had an external antenna.  I agree with the statement that all of the equipment takes a lot of room.

What is everyone using for an antenna?  Now we use this RCA Amplified Antenna.  I thought I could put the TV on top of it, but it must produce too much interference.

Has anyone had better luck with another antenna?

Well we also take a projector (ebay 150.00)
plus our laptop with BR player.
Now stereo...
Use a small 5.1 system I made using http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?InvtId=980-000430-PB-R&utm_source=GoogleProducts&utm_medium=ShoppingSites&utm_campaign=980-000430-PB-R
We take a LACIE hard drive 3TB with us for movie selection Cool
This is more than enough for now.I am working on a chip based amp that I will then modify the amp on the sub to work with.

Portable TV awesome.I use this TV everyday as I work remote and watch the noon news.
Antenna. another thing. The antenna that came with this TV was AWESOME to say the least.I had no issues at all.Open it up and worked everyday.
Then it broke (my mistake) and 3 antennas later I am still looking for a strong replacement to equal the original which came with the TV.

Camping the TV gets used at night most nights by our 12yr old plus watching news now and then.

We have a 7" LCD that I got from Radio Shack on sale. It has a rechargeable battery. The antenna is telescoping, but it also has an input for an external antenna. The reception on it is great. We keep it in the original box and is very compact for storing.

We also have a travel DVD player with a 9" screen that we use in the car and at the campsite for our son when needed. It has a rechargeable battery that lasts 12 hours! (Panasonic)

Evil  My brother and his wife had a small 13inch TV/DVD comb in their camper for the kids at rest time they use it as a timer for the older kids (this was the only time they could watch TV) one time through which is about 15 - 30 minutes long... still have the same set up now for grand kids  and bad weather
