Removing one bed from Coleman Taos

I've been having a hard time finding a coleman colorado in the NYC area so I was wondering how much weight I would be able to cut by removing one of the beds from a coleman taos camper?
Do you think i would be getting it down to colorado weight? I need something at around 600# max I'm thinking. My car isn't rated to tow but I've read about many people doing so with light campers. I've also really wanted a Quicksilver camper but whoa those are pricey. Thanks

Not a chance ... dry weight for a Taos was around 1000 lbs, removing one bed platform certainly wouldn't lower that weight by any more than 100 lbs, if that.

Out of curiosity, what do you think makes up all that extra weight in the Taos and other campers? Sometimes I look at these campers that are almost the exact same size and features yet there is a 1-200 lb shift in dry weight.

My guess is the roof. Aren't Colorados soft-top campers with a canvas roof?
Have you looked at Aliners? The smallest one, the Alite, can be towed by a motorcycle, but of course it's quite small. Its base weight is listed at 610 pounds.
Aliner Alite
. You would have a hard-wall trailer for security and privacy, the low towing of a pop up, and thirty-second set-up.

Here's what you want: http://www.leesurelite.com/
But ultralight is neither cheap nor luxurious. There are tents on wheels with a bed platform built in.

Agreed. The main goal with ultralights is to get up off the ground and maybe have a place to carry some of your stuff. Amenities are heavy and that weight adds up fast.

I think I'll end up with a coleman colorado or a quicksilver 6.0. If anyone has one they wanted to sell within 200miles of NYC let me know.

You would love the Quicksilver 6.0.
