Thank you for posting this.  I have a feeling I may have to use the cider vinegar/water soak on my DO.  I forgot to take it out of the camper before we closed it up for the winter.  Sad

Having cleaned a number of DO's for my son's Scout troop, if there is no rust and just crud in the DO, then just fill it with water and boil it for a while then empty and scrape it clean, wipe it down with oil while still hot. If it has significant rust, then clean it it with a wire brush, ( I have sometimes with a brush on a power drill) and then wash the DO and then re-cure it.

I do have a little bit of rust on my DO.  I thought I had taken care of it by scrubbing it with a nylon brush and then reseasoning it, but after making a cobbler in it over the weekend, a little bit of the rust reappeared.  I'll have to work on it some more I guess.
