The beautiful artwork in letterboxing is what drives me to its hobby instead of geocaching.  I also love to let the kids read the clues and try to find the stamps before I jump in.  Letterboxing is centuries old.

I've never been geocaching.  It's probably just as fun!!

My son and I went out on 2/4/2012 and scored the final stage of a 4 part cache just down the road from my house.  We had found the remains of stage 3 earlier on Dec 26 to be exact but the tag with the final coords was gone.  I pm'd the cache owner and got the finals from him and nailed it on Saturday.  It was a gorgeous day to be out stomping in the woods and the swamp where the final cache was hidden.  My geocaching dot com username is mcfarmall.

We have just started Geocaching so we haven't had a chance to do it while camping. Our family is really looking forward to it this summer. The boys and I have found about 7 in our area so far.

Most of my travels center around geocaching, and I take the camper whenever possible.  Been caching since '02 and still love it!

I have the geocaching.com application on my iphone.  Thought it would be a great activity when camping for me and the kids.  Have tried it a couple times but not as much as I thought I would.  Sometimes the signal is way down so I can't get good data on the phone.
On our last trip with the cub scouts a few weeks ago, DS, DD, & I tried to locate one that was near our camp.  Trecked through the woods to it, but there was a creek to cross and i wasn't about to try that log laying over it with my 3 year old....
One of these days I hope to find a good cache and get my son hooked.....

Anyone out there doing it succesfully with the iphone app?

My wife has an iphone, but she hasn't downloaded the app. Geocaching has taken us into rain, snow, mud, and some tough hiking.  I would not want to expose the iphone to the conditions my Garmin 60CSx and Garmin Etrex gpsr's have been through.

I do carry a cell phone afield, but use a Samsung (non-smartphone) ruggedized phone that is water and shock resistant.  I am able to wash it off under running water in a sink when it gets dirty after fishing, geocaching, hiking, cooking, and working in the garden.

I use my Droid Razr and I downloaded the c:geo app. It's free and it works really well.

Similar to LoganGuard, I just started caching last year (during my deployment to Afghanistan--my roomate got me hooked on it), but didn't get back until after the camping season ended.  I FULLY intend to do a lot (caching AND camping) this year, though!  GC name is gglfam   Cool

We've been geocaching for years...I had stopped doing it for a while because of the pain in the butt of downloading waypoints to the handheld GPS, printing cache sheets etc.   I just got a Droid Razr though, and downloaded the app, and it's so much easier!  The phone's GPS works pretty well.  So now we're back into geocaching and can't wait to do a lot of it this summer while camping.

Be careful when routing around in bushes and/or climbing tress to find a cache. It seems that some people put cahces in places with poison ivy or poison oak........  Sad

Caching and camping go hand in hand for us. We always combine the two on our vacations. Great way to spend some quality time together. Smiley

I started geocaching in 2010 when I put c:geo on my Android phone (free and much nicer than the official GC.com application). To date I have 274 geocaches, all with the c:geo program. It's a spring, summer, fall hobby for me, and I also love riding my motorcycle, so I do both at the same time quite a bit. A few weekends ago I went on a motorcycle ride and got geocaches in PA, MD and DE all in one day. It was great. And, I agree, you find things even near your house that you would never find out about otherwise.

I will be looking for some geocaches in New York State next weekend when we go to the Finger Lakes. I haven't found a geocache in NY yet. My GC.com name is Vulcan1600 (I ride a Kawasaki Vulcan 1600)  Wink
