...There have been too many times that I've shared a favourite photo with someone, only to be told, "What a great picture!  You must have a really nice camera!"  Disapprove

... as it happens, we do have a really nice camera, IMHO at least  Tongue... we picked up an EOS Rebel T2i while we were in the states.  We already have a Rebel XT (which we'll be putting up for sale) so we're set for lenses and flash.

I answered this according to the practices of our 'family photographer' (my 15-year-old DS; my pics always seem to have something wrong with them (heads cut off, etc.) so I've delegated that task to him).

Landscapes are one of his specialties, especially at sunset and sunrise (I voted for this category).  Macros (water droplets' making impact (such as the ocean or shoreline)) are one of his faves as well as wildlife (butterflies, birds) but I didn't vote for these.

My 2nd vote was in the 'other' category because lately DS has been obsessed with time-lapse photography (again the favorite subjects are sunrise, sunset, and the movement of the moon and/or planets (Jupiter and Venus are currently visible to the naked eye in our area)).

DS uses his own Sony DSC W330, borrows his grandmother's Canon PowerShot 8550 with a CHDK firmware mod, and his cousin's (film/editing student at well-known regional university) Canon Rebel T2I.  DS uses Adobe LightRoom 3 to edit/modify.  Pics can be seen at briansullivandesign.com/photography if you are interested (and sorry for not being able to resist the motherly urge to talk about the children).

Always the post with the site # and some scenery, definitely wildlife, activities and Sam.  DH takes very good pix - I mean with him as the subject - I would rather not have pix of myself.  Documents things I'd rather not have confirmed.

Camping somewhere north of you

Sometimes you just get lucky:

A couple of weeks ago we were camping with some friends, and we were the first ones of the group to arrive. We drove by one of the sites they would be occupying on the way to our own, and I happened to glance over. It seems that the site was already occupied.  Big Smile

Most of my pictures are of the touristy things the family does, and mainly the kids and grandkids. But one must is I always take a picture or two of the campsite as well, with the pup set up. Even though the pup is the center of many of these pictures, I can tell where we were camping by the background scenery. I've done this religiously every camping trip since we went digital about five years ago, and I'm sure there are lots of photos in the attic from prior to then.

How about all of the above?

I take all of those types of pictures, but I'm not sure of the ratio of what to what.

Besides landscapes and family, I would also like to add that we usually take a picture of our PUP at the location, usually all set up.

Us too.  Oh, and the truck.

Truck in the dew

I am forever taking pictures of our truck.  DW used to find it odd but now it's a family joke.

We take our camera on just about every trip, but I rarely, if ever, take pictures.  It seems like such a burden to me.  If I take pictures, I have to import them when I get home.  And, then, the DW nags me to get them printed.  If I don't take pictures, I don't have to do all of that extra work.  Which is sort of unfortunate, as we tend to look back on our photos often.  When I do take photos, or short videos (see sample below), they are typically of the family.

A family classic in our house...That's it?!?!

Yes it is.  She was the real "big sister" that day, as there is no way her older sister would have had her ear's pierced had little one not gone first.

Hey all... I usually take pics of everything! From Little Jimmy (our tiny trailer), to the things we do/see, all kinds of critters and the activities we do. I love digital scrapbooking, so I have fun putting it all together. My son is 9, so it's a fun way to look back on our trips from last summer and remember all the stuff we did! We put it up where we can see it, til we have another one to replace it with. I just use my old point-n-shoot digital cam... works great!

I shoot scenic, forests, creeks and waterfalls if available, then my lovely lady.  Good thing she does not read this or I would have to change the order.

Unstable Tripod, where was that pano taken?  Looks like the eastern crest of the Sierras from highway 395, near Lone Pine.  Correct?

There is no question that the photo is taken by the photographer.. the camera is not much more than a fancy (in my case expensive) way to hold a lens and media, some with more focal length range than others.
