Just moved to Albany and would like to camp the Adirondacks for the first time.  Any ideas?  Prefer State parks, never camped private CG's.  Open to ideas!

Thanks, Mark

There are many state campgrounds in the Adirondacks. Most of the DEC parks offer dry camping.  Golden Beach State park on Raquette Lake is a nice park. Fish Creek near Saranac  I believe does offer electric sites. There are a few DEC parks in the Old Forge Inlet area.  Use the Reserve America web site to search for campgrounds.

Spent a week at Lake Durant near Blue Mountain and loved it.  We had a lake front site, rented canoe and kayak for the week.  We did lots of hiking and a day rafting trip on the Hudson.

Eighth Lake is our favorite DEC campground.  We also have stayed a few times at the Wilmington/Lake Placid KOA and had a great time.  It's a resort-style place with a pool, Adirondack style lodge, etc.  It's close to Lake Placid and Whiteface.

It's a little pricey but my family loves it.  Very clean, friendly, secure and tons of activities.

Rollins Pond and Cranberry Lake are our two favorite DEC campground. Both are "dry" camping.

Raquette Lake's (9th lake) Golden Beach SP is really nice.  Plenty to do north and south of the lake, hiking, shopping, exploring, Adirondack museum is awesome, my kids loved it.  Good fishing and a great stream to canoe up to a waterfall and spend some time picnicing and swimming.
Not too many SP's up there have electric.  You'd have to see on ReserveAmerica.com which one's do.

My favorite pick is the Adirondak Loj: http://www.adk.org/ad_loj/

They have a nice campground and great day hikes. Amazing views.

Fish Creek and Rollins are fantastic.  Fish Creek for certain lakeside sites (but lots of power boats), Rollins for private sites (and hardly any power boats).  Sites 163-175 on Rollins are great.

Our "home" campground is Moreau Lake SP. 30 minutes from our house- nice weekend get away. Our favorite ADK cg is Rollins Pond- no  motorized boats and the rock islands are a blast. We don't bother camping around Lake George in any of the state parks- too busy for us. Buck Pond is very remote and has good kayaking. Racquet Lake is nice too- dark at night though- not a lot of lights on the bath houses- if there are any at all.
