Anyone into radio control vehicles, boats, planes, cars, helicopters anything? Me personally I’m into all types. I take along at least one type of vehicle depending where I go. If it’s near water a boat if not a car and if there is a lot of open area a plane or helicopter. All electric so that it is quiet and I get no complaints, except for one gas car that I take only to certain places. If nothing else they are always a great ice breaker for meeting people. And the kids love them.

We have on several ocations taken our r/c cars with us. Our kids even have there own. They are fun. One that we have and not used often is a hovercraft as it need a flat surface or smooth water to use.

I've got 3. All TRAXXAS brand. I have an electric Rustler, which I've had forever. A nitro Stampede and a nitro REVO 3.3. I've taken the Rustler many times camping, but never the Nitros. I figure most CGs would frown on the noise? Anyone ever had any problems, running nitros at CGs?

You'd like the campground at Newport News Park, they have a RC Flying field there!! Matter of fact, the campground I'm at right now (Chesapeake Campground) has a big field, couple of people routinely fly RC planes there!

Chaos reigns within, reflect, repent, and reboot. Order shall return!

I like airplanes.  I also have a few heli's.  If I am close to a large body of water, I like float planes.  A 40 size Cub with floats is a nice relaxing afternoon.  With the price of gas so high, I dont go the the club field like I used too.  I take a little something camping or use electric in small local fields.  I have been trying to trade one of my planes to get into trucks again.

DH is also into airplanes.  This is a fairly new hobby for him - just since the first of this year, but he has wanted to do this for years.  He DID promise me that this would not turn into a "money pit"and I foolishly believed him.  UGH! another plane, another radio, another crash!, oops back to the RC store.  He has taken a plane on a couple of trips, but finds that the open area is just not quite open enough or with enough length to suit him.  And I asked him to PLEASE keep flying weekends for flying and camping weekends for camping.  We'll see.  But he does love it.

"dadmomh" have the DH look "park flyers" its a type of smaller electric rc plane that can be flown is as little an area as the dimond of a baseball field. Alot of them are made from prity sturdy foam and resist crashes a little better and can be repared wit tape and or a little glue.

I also have an old traxxas rustler that goes with us. I don't take any of my glow aircraft... .90 and 1.20 size ships don't do well at CGs... hand launch gliders or slope ships are good when traveling down the west coast.

I am looking for an electric hotliner to take with us, though i havent found anything i like for the $$.

My son and have a Traxxas E-Maxx, Duratrax Evader, & a Losi Mini T that we fool around with, all electric so the noise is minimal at best, then we try to find a gravel pit or dirt pile to try and break parts on.

I have got a Team Associated RC10T (truck)out three different motors. I still have an RC10 stadium car. I also have a Avistar .40 trainer plane as well as a Goldberg clipped wing piper cub. I have got an electric park flier last year. I really like the electric planes and dont fly my gas ones much anymore.

We're camping at the beach this weekend, still much to cold to do the traditional beach activities so we're going to bring all 5 of our RC cars to play on the sand dunes. 3 of the cars are brushless and can go upwards of 50 mph so we hope to get some big jumps off the dune. Still being somewhat cool, there won't be many people in the way.  Big Smile

Wish we still had kids at home.  When my son was young we had bought a Radio Shack 4x4 pickup RC truck -not a fancy hobby shop quality unit, just your basic christmas special.  We had a blast with that toy when we went camping especially - lasted years. And when I say "we" I mean I had a blast playing with it, with him.  We'd build up little courses at the campsites to navigate, we could put stuff in the back and see if we could keep it in the truck box.

I'd feel a little silly pulling out an RC truck now.

Have to wait for grandson to visit I guess.

I like rc everything.

Right now I have a blade cp2 helicopter. I'd like to trade it for some sort of electric boat or sail boat though. I just dont have the time to get good with the heli.

I'm a private pilot, but haven't flown in years.... it got too expensive.
I've always thought & wondered about RC aircraft.  Not really an alternative, but similar in a way.  We were out Sunday and stopped at a field where a guy was out flying.  Let the kids (and me) watch for a few minutes...  It was electric but I don't know what he had, it seemed pretty fast though.  Anyway, it seemed to me that it might get boring after 20 minutes or so of flying.  Seems like it might be the same for boats and cars too.

airplane, helicopter, boat, or car....?

What about it keeps your interest?
