YAY!!! It's booked and paid for and the countdown has begun.  Tongue

With our PUP having been repaired over the long winter months- new roof baby!- we've got a 3-day weekend planned for March 13-16. Our boss and his family booked cabins at Tenkiller Lake in OK and invited us since we are 'family' too. Well why pay for a cabin when we've already paid for the camper?!

We are so excited- even the hubby who is still getting used to camping. The kiddo got tons of camping stuff (nice lantern, pie iron, binoculars, etc) for Christmas, so he's pumped too! I'M SO EXCITED!!!!!

So where and how soon is YOUR first trip of the year?

You'll love Tenkiller Lake, it's awesome! Our first reserved trip is the Mid-Con '09 in Ely then we have another 5 day stay booked at Roaring River SP in Missouri. The rest will be short weekend trips to our favorite campgrounds here in Oklahoma.

Make sure you take a notepad and pen- your first trip is the 'test' of what you do and don't need in and for your camper.
Otherwise-
HAVE FUN!

Ummm, wow that is a good question??? We're going with the boss and his family and booked thru the OK state parks website. They emailed me directions today, so hopefully someplace close to them!  Wink
I am a bit freaked by the changing weather forecast- first rain, then no rain, and now rain and cooler nights? YIKES!

I am new to this site. Have been a tent camper and am purchasing our first pop-up. 1978 Starcraft Galaxy, getting a really good deal on it. Has of course the redneck air conditioner that will freeze your butt off. ( a window unit mounted on the back).  Am purchasing the pup from my sister, so I know it is in good order.  Have made reservations for July 4th weekend at Sam A Baker State Park in Missouri (our favorite spot). Other trips will be some weekend getaways.

Camping season here in CO starts later than in most states, so we have to wait a bit longer.  Sad

We are going out on our 1st camp-out over Memorial Day weekend. Got reservations at Mountain Park CG in the Roosevelt Nat'l. Park not far from our home. It is located along the Cache La Poudre River and up in the lovely mountains. We are so excited and can NOT wait for the camping season to begin. We also have a site reserved up in Estes Park, CO right outside the Rocky Mt. Nat'l. Park for Labor Day weekend. We are hoping to go camping over 4th of  July weekend, but still have not made any concrete plans yet because our youngest daughter is getting married the weekend before. So we might just 'recover' at home. We always go on weekenders during the summer (boon-docking) up at Red Feathers Lake, CO and plan to do quite a few weekends there this summer also.

Hope everyone has a great 1st camp-out and make sure to post those photos..... PopUp Green SUV Red....so we all can see what a great time everyone has!  Big Smile

Hey everyone.. I'm trying to get a place for us to camp for the last few days of Spring Break. I am not liking the first come first serve on about every state park I have picked for us. I know I am not about to attempt that after last years experience. I can't wait till OK state parks are up with the times of viewing and reserving spots online. I am getting very depressed over trying to find a camp ground.. I am so frustrated I am almost to the point of just givng up the whole camping idea this week.

Tenkiller State Park let us reserve- granted it was via telephone. Practically had the whole RV side to ourselves except for one 5-er, the park ranger, and a brave tent-city group. Not a bad place, tho I imagine it is prettier in the later spring/fall when there are leaves (and no burn ban...).

Well we got home around 5pm tonight. Been gone since Friday morning and boy were the cats happy to see us!  Wink We did have an enjoyable trip- even thru the child waking Saturday AM with tons of pain in the ear resulting in a drive to Sallisaw to see the doc at the ER Sunday, even with the ranger raining on our campfire parade Friday night stating no fire in the pits, even with the cold night and the noisy furnace waking us up every 30 minutes or so... Hubby's back can only handle a few nights on those mattresses before we know for sure it's time to go home. But all in all it was a nice trip! We found some beautiful (and aerobic!) trails to hike, saw a lot of gorgeous views, fished ALL day Sunday, spent time with some wonderful people, and made it home safely after.

And I spent the first hour of the return trip bugging hubby "Where should we go next time? Easter weekend is in 4 weeks, we should find someplace and make it a long weekend again!" At least I know the kiddo is all in!  Tongue

Like you in Colorado, Northern Nevada's season won't begin until the end of May or the beginning of June, but I'm fortunate to live near Northern and Central California where the season is much longer and nicer. I've scheduled my first trip for April 10 near Chico, Ca to take my sister and her family camping for her 60th birthday celebration. We both love camping and she loves to fish. It'll be Crappie season, so I might need to sink my pole a bit too.  Tongue

It's only been just under 5 months since my last trip, but I'm going through withdrawls... they should make a patch for that!

We will be taking our first trip with the new pup in May to Devil's Den SP in Arkansas.  We have been avid tent campers for years and wanted to get off the ground.  Great site for info.

Thanks,

TRex,
We love Devil's Den, it is one of the main reasons we bought our new camper (which we are picking up this weekend). We normally tent camp in the shadow if my in-laws 3-axle Raptor 5th wheel toy hauler, and we decided we had enough of that. Devil's den also seemed to have trouble with the water heaters in the bath houses too because I think I've had a hot shower there maybe twice(hence the reasoning behind a popup with a shower).

We also like Lake Fort Smith, we haven't stayed there yet but we have been there as it's kinda on the way for us down 71 to Fort Smith.

Our first trip of the year in our new camper will be to Withrow Springs state park north of Huntsville. It's about 15 minutes from Eureka Springs and is a small, Quiet campground with really nice bathrooms and very nice sites spaced pretty well apart from each other.

All three of those state parks are about 35 minutes from me, it's nice to know that an hour and a half after being home from work on a friday I can be at a campground, set up and sipping on a cold beer.
