We have the same problem here in Illinois.  The state park system has money problems.  63 employees are being let go.  There is talk of closing some parks.  How can closing parks help?  There is a local state park in our area that is being run by volunteers.  I think this should be tried before closing any park.

This has been happening for several years in various states. It's not the first and won't be the last. They are always looking for something to cut to keep the money flowing to their favorite pork projects.

Every state agency in Georgia has to cut 0% out of this years and next years budget. Its just not the state parks that are going to suffer its all of us who work for the state.

Just like the business world. Our company has cut well over 0% of our workforce in the last 2 years as well as cutting programs for employees and such. There was a time when it was a gravy train with biscuit wheels, but no more. Reality caught up.Like some companies, you may need a leadership chance to folks who understand a balanced budget.

All this has come about because of less tax revenue. The higher the gas prices the higher the food prices the less people have to spend on other things.

Any word on which parks are in jeopardy?  We camp mainly at the state parks here in Georgia and find each one has something unique to offer.  I was marking off each park as we stay at one and would hate to have my list cut by 13 sites.
