Hello from SE Michigan! I guess my midlife crisis vehicle is a PUP instead of a Corvette!
Got my first one a few weeks ago, it's one "new to me", a gently used 1995 Jayco 1206 pup in pretty good shape. After tent camping for several years with my wife this is an exciting upgrade to our gear! This one has a Thetford C2 toilet in it along w/ a shower too which I did not expect. Being a handyman there are plenty of fixes and upgrades I have in mind for this... LED's, radio, etc. My big project at the moment is the surge brakes. I discovered the master cylinder is toast so I'll be fixing that this week along with repacking the bearings with grease. I'm excited to take her out, the maiden voyage is the week of July 4! So glad I found this site, it's already given me a ton of knowledge about my pup and upgrade ideas, so thank you very much for having me. - John & Margaret

Hello - I've been a long-time popup owner (Coleman Sea Pine bought Feb. 2001 new), but got frustrated with a few problems and left it parked in the back yard for the last 2 or 3 years. I tent camped during that time and got along OK as long as I had electricity for fans or heater. Finally decided to get the PU usable again and found the roof with a ton of cracks (infamous ABS), and I fixed the worst so it doesn't leak (Eternabond for the win, LOL!). It still needs a little more work, though.
We started out with the whole family of 7 camping (then the kids' ages were 3 to 14) but now the 3 oldest are doing their own things, 2 are close to moving out, and my husband doesn't camp anymore. I miss the kids going with me (not the husband, haha) but it's so much easier to plan campouts with just me or with 1 or 2 of my sons.
I've had it out for a 4-day weekend over Memorial Day with only one new problem cropping up (the particle board around the outside stove fell apart). I had my good old Coleman stove with me so I used that instead. So I've decided I'll use it through next spring, repairing, improving (hopefully) and organizing it to precisely how I want it, and If I don't love it again I'll sell it just prior to summer vacation season next year.
Thanks for all the collective wisdom! I'll be reading.

But I need some help before jumping in cold. We will most likely be buying a used unit sometime before the end of this summer, so I'll be lurking, reading, learning, and likely be asking a ton of questions around here. For example, what the heck is Electric Steering on a PUP, and why do I want my trailer to steer?
Thanks
so much
in advance.

[:D]Hello everyone. I have been absent from this forum for quite awhile for various reasons but I'm glad to be back. My wife and I were longtime campers but had to sell due to health problems. I sure do miss my pop up
and I guess reading the posts here brings me somewhat closer to the comradery we often felt when actively camping. Hope to get back to it soon.
Hope you feel better soon so you can enjoy camping again.

Hi all! I've been lurking for a few weeks so thought I'd say hello and introduce my family. I am Melissa (31) and work for the US Dept of Veterans Affairs here in Maine
. My boyfriend is Mike (27) is a disabled Army veteran and works security for a psychiatric hospital. And my daughter Ashleigh (almost 10) is a little spitfire, just like her momma. We have a dog that will not be joining us camping; she is quite the barker. She's a Jack Russell Short, Piper (2).
We recently made our first purchase together (aww) of a 2012 Rockwood 2560G Freedom. The night we brought it home, DD and myself and her little friend next door spent the night in the front yard but otherwise we are leaving on our first trip Friday July 6 for 3 nights to a local favorite campground of ours, about an hour away (Lake Pemaquid Campground) and have a few more planned this summer if his schedule allows for it.
I've been submersed in everything popup for about a month now and love reading everyones posts and replies and witty one-liners. I have NO experience with popups but plenty with camping, but Mike has used them before growing up with his family. No SPUTs yet except things felt awfully wobbly when we set it up the first night home until I asked him if he put the levelers down. No wheelies though
Off to go read some more, just wanted to say hi and thanks for all the great info thusfar.
Happy Camping

Hi All,
I'm Jamie and live just outside of Dallas, Texas and just purchased my first PUP: a 1993 Coleman Americana. I think it may be a Williamsburg, but don't hold me to it. I am just starting to go over the manual that came with it. This past weekend we gave it a good scrubbing, opened it up and went over everything briefly.
For starters I plan to rewire the trailer lights this coming weekend, and found a diagram online for that. Other than that, the only other thing I see is the front two lift pulleys need adjusting because the cables are slightly looser than the rear, not allowing the door to install properly. I picked mine up for $1500 from a person just a mile from where I live, so I am pleased with that. It came with no roof A/C but rather a $300, new portable A/C with exhaust tube, as well as the owner throwing in a microwave and pots and pans. Canvass is in great shape, and the only thing that isn't perfect are a few dings in the compartment doors and some chipping of the edges of the wood tables and counters which I can replace.
Glad I found this site, I have already learned a lot so far! I'll post pics as soon as I get some good ones.

Hey,
I have been lurking quite a bit on here, though I only joined today. My wife and I and our two kids (18 and 11) just got a 2009 Jayco 1207. We have ha it out a few times so far this year and have had a great time. Now, if only backing it up back in to the driveway were as easy as the setup. I don't drive, (bad eyes) but my wife does. She is getting better at the backing up, but it still takes a good 20 min to get it back in to the driveway at home. I imagine with practice she will get even better. Anyway, as usual, I am rambling......

I'm not sure why this is so difficult since the HELP tab is right at the top of the forums page but you're not alone as many seem to find it so.
Upload your pics to a photo hosting site of your choice then click on this HELP tab, then Posting ... scroll down until you come to Insert Hyperlink and use the example provided to insert your own hyperlink to your pics.

Hi all, new to this site and new to pop-up campers (and campers in general). Been a tent and truck camper my whole life, but now have a wife and toddler and those days are gone. Had a 13' fiberglass egg Scamp for a few months last summer, but with two large dogs we found we needed more space, so a pop-up seems like a good way to go.
I have been poking around this site, and it seems like there's lots of great info, but so far I haven't seen a "purchase check-list" or advice on what to look for with a used pop-up. We don't have a lot of money to spend, maybe $2500 or less, so we'll be looking at well-used, and I'm not sure what the important things to check are (remember, I'm not only new to pop-ups but mostly new to campers entirely!).
Is there a thread or threads y'all can point me to?
I'll be towing with a 2007 Nissan Frontier Crew Cab, if that matters (so not a monster tow vehicle, but hopefully enough?).
